Population decline in Minnesota moose topic of Aug. 15 lecture

Cook County Higher Education’s next guest lecture will be on Aug. 15 at 7 p.m. at the Higher Ed campus in Grand Marais, and the focus will be on the dwindling moose population in our state.

What are the factors influencing the moose population in Cook County? What are the ongoing studies and what are the results telling us so far? What can we do to encourage moose population recovery?

Dr. Seth Moore, presenter, leads the biology and environment department at Grand Portage Trust Lands. The agency engages in fisheries and wildlife research projects throughout the year, working with moose, wolves, fish, deer, grouse, and environmental issues. Moore has worked for the Grand Portage Band since 2005.

He has a Ph.D. in water resources science from the University of Minnesota (2008), a master’s degree in environmental biology also from University of Minnesota (1998), and a bachelor’s degree in biology and environmental studies from Northland College in Ashland (1994). Moore focuses his research efforts on subsistence species of the Grand Portage Band of Chippewa.
