The owners of Poplar Haus Wine and Spirits temporarily closed their restaurant after some of the staff were possibly exposed to the coronavirus.
A nearby lodge owner notified Poplar Haus that some of its guests had visited the restaurant and since then had tested positive for COVID-19.
On the Poplar Haus Facebook page, the owners stated, “It has come to our attention that some members of a group of diners were at the Haus last Wednesday, August 19, that have tested positive for COVID-19. This test occurred two days after their visit here, so obviously they did not contact here, but we fear that we may have had some exposure. We are feeling healthy and have no symptoms, but in the interest of health and safety of our staff and community, we are halting Food and Beverage service for the time-being to sanitize the restaurant and get all of ourselves tested. Once we get all of our results back and we feel safe to open, we will do so.”
The Poplar Haus staff were tested for the virus on Wednesday, August 26.
Cabin rentals and carry out service from the Poplar Haus Liquor Store will remain in operation while the tests are pending.
When Cook County Public Health Supervisor Grace Grinager was contacted about the possible exposure to Poplar Haus, her response was, “When a customer of a business or restaurant tests positive for COVID-19, that business may be contacted by either the customer or a public health official. In most cases, the business will not need to close. If a local business has questions about a specific situation, I’d encourage them to call public health at (218) 387- 3605 so that we can help answer questions about quarantine and testing for employees.”
