Whether you’re planning your next hunting foray, backwoods fishing trip, or searching for property, your desired (local) location will be found in a Cook County plat book.
And boy does the county have plenty of them. Boxes and boxes need to be sold, said Cook County IT director Rena Rogers.
“We need to get rid of some of these plat books,” said Rogers. “Originally we sold them for $35, but now we will offer them for $10. We have already gotten our money out of them, so now it’s time to move some out of here to make some more space in the basement.”
Realtors and developers often use plat books. The books are filled with maps, drawn to scale, showing land divided into blocks, lots, and parcels. They are ultimately handy for anyone wanting to locate old homesteads or discover areas they didn’t know about.
“If someone wants to purchase one, they have to come to the auditor’s office. The books are in boxes right outside of the office,” said Rogers.
