We all want to support the community during the COVID-19 pandemic (“Some Airbnb’s still advertising for business,” Saturday April 11, 2020). While it’s possible renting vacation properties to people who are coming here for jobs may be legitimate, that determination should not be made solely by the owner of the property. When individuals who feel they know best what to do (however well-intentioned they may be) act on their own, they circumvent Governor Walz’s order and put the larger community at risk.
For the sake of all of us who live here, please clear such vacation rentals with Cook County governance. These professionals are taking proactive, effective measures to both prevent and prepare for the COVID-19 crisis. The CCNH has done a great job of identifying those agencies over the past several weeks.
