Playhouse to perform September Bears, a one act play

The Grand Marais Playhouse will be bringing the one act September Bears by Jeff Barker to the Minnesota Association of Community Theater’s MACT Fest, March 18 – 22. But first, Cook County theater lovers will get a chance to see the play on March, 13 at 7 p.m. at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts.

September Bears is a play that takes place in New York City at the time of the attacks on the World Trade Center. In a classroom a child needed a hug. “Mama Luc” hugged him and gave him a bear to hold. Her gesture sparked one small church to respond—the result was a national love story.

The play is directed by Jack Nickolay with the cast of Rose Arrowsmith DeCoux, Beth Faraone, Kevin Kager, Hannah Nickolay, Will Moore, and David Warren. Maria Nickolay is the stage manager.

Sue Hennessy will be working as the stage manager for the festival as a MACT Board member.

The festival shows will be adjudicated and two shows that have achieved special Excellence in Performance will represent Minnesota at the AACTFest on April 23 – 26 in Newton, Iowa. Plays selected as Best of Festival at the Region will perform with the best productions from 10 other regions at AACTFest 2015, June 23 – 28 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Don’t miss the public performance in Grand Marais on March, 13 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 and additional donations will be greatly appreciated to help with hotel and travel expenses to Cokato, Minnesota for the festival. Donations can also be sent to the Playhouse at P.O. Box 996, Grand Marais.
