Plastic recycling opportunity offered locally

There is a very exciting opportunity available in Grand Marais for one and for all that are interested in helping make a difference in plastic pollution!

In partnership with Cook County Whole Foods Co-op and Grand Marais Family Dentistry, the Nordic Nature Group has put together an opportunity to recycle all oral care products. This movement is part of a nationwide organization Terracycle, who works with businesses all over, to create these recycling opportunities.

Recyclable oral care products include toothbrushes, toothpaste tubes, floss containers, all product packaging…the only things not accepted are electric toothbrushes and floss picks. Why recycle? . Enough plastic is thrown away each year to circle the earth four times. . The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is located in the North Pacific Gyre off the coast of California. The largest ocean garbage site in the world, this floating mass of plastic is twice the size of Texas, with plastic pieces outnumbering sea life six to one. . Annually approximately 500 billion plastic bags are used worldwide. More than one million bags are used every minute. Many of these bags end up in the ocean, killing sea life.

To participate, bring your recyclables to Cook County Whole Foods Co-op or Grand Marais Family Dentistry. We will be receiving all oral care products until October 31, 2018 at these locations.

To help reduce plastic pollution even more, buying compostable bamboo toothbrushes is another eco-friendly and easy way to take action. Bamboo brushes are available at Cook County Whole Foods and online at www.brushwithbamboo.com/.
