Residents and visitors to Cook County will celebrate inside and outside winter adventures during Presidents Weekend Feb. 17-19. There’s fun to be had for the whole family with a luminary ski and snowshoe event, snowmobile drag races, a fiber retreat, and a family ski festival.
The annual Candlelit Ski and Snowshoe event, hosted by the Sugarbush Trail Association, will be from 6 – 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17. The Oberg Mountain Trailhead near Tofte will be lit with luminaries for a snowshoeing or skiing venture by candlelight. Visitors can warm up afterward with a bonfire and hot chocolate.
Also on Saturday, Feb. 17 will be the Hungry Jack Snowmobile Drag Races. Hungry Jack Lake is located approximately 28 miles up the Gunflint Trail from Grand Marais. Sign-up for racers begins at 10 a.m.
The cozy Northern Fibers retreat will be Feb. 14-18. The week-long event is hosted by the Grand Marais Art Colony, North House Folk School, and the Northwoods Fiber Guild. There will be a variety of classes at each location, lunch-n-learn talks and demonstrations, a show-n-share event and more.
