Viking Ashley Deschampe’s junior season in basketball is over but the awards for her fine play at the guard position keep coming in.
Last week Ashley and fellow Viking Brea Boomer were named to the Polar League All-Conference First Team. Several weeks earlier, Ashley received a game ball for becoming the fifth Viking player ever to go over 1,000 points for her career. She is the first junior in Cook County High School history to go over 1,000 points.
This week Ashley received an even bigger honor when the St. Paul Pioneer Press named her to the Honorable Mention All-State team.
Deschampe led the Polar League in two categories. She was the best free throw shooter with an 80.2% average and she had the best percentage of 3-point shooting with 43.3% of her long range shots going in—she hit 90 3-point shots for the season.
Deschampe was also the sixth most prolific scorer in the conference with a 17.3 points per game average. She was fifth in the conference in steals with 3.4 thefts per game and tenth in filed goal percentage with 44.6% of her shots finding the hoop.
“Congratulations to Ashley,” said Head Coach T.J. Super, adding, “The team is selected from girls in all classes and “Dish” is one the three girls in Section 7A to be selected.”
The Vikings ended their season with a 20-4 record.
