The North Superior Ski and Run Club (NSSRC) is renovating the Pincushion Chalet at Pincushion Trails, after 20 years of recreational use. Pincushion Chalet, built by NSSRC volunteers in 1998, serves as a trail center, warming house, and gathering place for cross-country skiers, hikers, mountain bikers and other users of the Pincushion Trails.
The renovation project recently received a boost through a $2,000 grant from the Lloyd K. Johnson Foundation. The grant will help with purchase of new tables and the construction of cabinets. A changing area, new displays and other furnishings are also part of the renovation project. To date, local craftsmen have built benches for indoor seating and an outdoor ski rack for winter use.
NSSRC president Chris O’Brien said, “We are excited to renovate the Chalet and create an inviting place to meet friends or family before heading out or coming back from using the trails. A well maintained, comfortable Chalet would help us promote an active community. Bottom line, we want to see more people outdoors skiing, hiking and biking on the Pincushion Trails.”
The renovation is in preparation for the 40th anniversary of the NSSRC. An Anniversary Celebration will be held on October 19 at Pincushion Chalet. Activities include: 3 p.m. run/ hike/bike; 5 p.m. potluck; and 6 p.m. speaker/story sharing.
Everyone is welcome to come celebrate Pincushion Trails, a great community asset. More information about the celebration and Pincushion trails can be found at pincushiontrails.org.
