Work on the Pike Lake Road has been slower than anticipated, said Cook County Highway Engineer Robbie Hass, but the goal is to still finish this year.
“The national shortages of truck drivers is becoming apparent on this project since it’s so large,” said Hass. “I’ve been told by our contractors that they can finish this year but it’ll likely be into late Fall so it’s much later than our initial schedule.”
The $4.3 million County Road 45 (Pike Lake Road) project is being done by KGM Contractors, Inc. Construction began May 23, and the work was initially scheduled to be complete by summer 2023. Folks living on the Pike Lake Road have had to take detours for various phases of the job. “The detour is definitely helping them (KGM) work faster with limited resources so that’s good,” said Hass. “I believe they’re trying to shuffle around some of their other projects to get more trucks up here.”
