Adam Treeful of Grand Marais takes off from Gunflint Lake in the 2012 Mush for a Cure on Saturday, March 10. Treeful was crowned the “king” of the Pink Pajama Party on Friday night. There is a bit of chaos at the start, as mushers jump out of their sleeping bags, pull on their boots and hook up their dogs. It went amazingly fast considering there were about 40 teams taking off.
The Bold, the Bald and the Beautiful. Victims/volunteers Don Kufahl (left) and Dennis Neitzke shaved their heads—in front of a cheering crowd at Windigo—to raise money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Kufahl raised $1,000 and Neitzke raised $2,500. They are pictured here with MFAC honoree Ana Genz-Wall.
Dick and Phyllis Parker are the hardworking folks who handle registration of mushers and pledges. At press time, musher pledges totaled $29,000 and they were still trickling in. The Parkers took a well-deserved break at the Friday night Pink Pajama Party at Windigo Lodge!
Minnesota’s Captain Jack Sparrow delighted kids of all ages—offering sparkling gold coins to kids, teaching sword play (with sticks) and flirting with the ladies. He and his entourage danced the night away at Trail Center Lodge with D’Merritt.
MFAC organizers Sue Prom (left) and Mary Black not only oversee all the MFAC activities, they also find time to shop for outrageous pink attire. Thanks for a great event, ladies!
