The Grand Marais Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade was moved from the Tuesday before Thanksgiving to the Friday after, and that worked for a lot of people who donned festive attire and joined the fun—like Skipper the Joynes Ben Franklin mascot! Skipper, Santa and friends threw cute stuffed toy “snowballs” to the crowd. The Joynes crew took home the prize for the best business float.
Grand Marais Public Utilities got in the holiday mood with family members of city workers—Toby Stockman and Brody and Casey Bronikowski—tossing treats.
Cook County Girl Scouts—and their furry friends—joined the parade too.
There were lots of smiles and laughter at the Grand Marais Community Craft Sale and Open House on Saturday, Nov. 26. Above: Shoppers checked out holiday items from local consultants like Judy Schmidt with “Scentsy.” Above right: Girl Scout Leader Arvis Thompson had a good time while selling pointsettias. Right: AnnaBelle Silence, 3, enjoyed a cookie—a “gingerbread guy!”
The Hovland Arts Festival Artisan’s Christmas Sale on Nov. 26 had many beautiful gifts. These shoppers were interested in the natural soaps made by Hartley Acero.
The display of polar bears, beavers, pileated woodpeckers, and more by Hovland sculptors Dan and Lee Ross was a mini-gallery exhibit, enjoyed by young and old.
The Christmas sale includes wonderful handcrafts, like this diamond willow chair created by Bruce Updyke— a perfect resting spot for a tired baby.
