Crowned the “king” and queen of the Mush for a Cure Pink Masquerade Party on Friday night were Andrew Hulst and 2011 Mush for a Cure honoree, Binner Rahn.
Jessica Berg-Collman was again the top fundraiser, earning awards for the most pledges collected and the most money earned. Helping her with her awards is Dennis LaBoda, whose dogs pulled Jessica in the fun run.

Julie Collman of Grand Marais was an “Iron Musher, “ competing in both the skijoring and sled dog Mush for a Cure events. However, she got the biggest workout skijoring, since her partner, Kenai, wasn’t doing much pulling!
Before taking off in the Mush for a Cure fun run, Chris Schreiver put the finishing touches—pink scarves—on her pink dogs. And added a kiss for good measure!
Although WTIP’s Bob Carter did not have to shave his head—he didn’t receive the most donations, so he could have ducked out the door, he went with the flow and let his sweetheart, Helen, take the first cut. “Are you sure?” she asked.
Mush for a Cure participants will do just about anything for the cause—raising money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation—including putting their hair on the line. Andrea Peterson of Studio 61 provided the implements of destruction for The Bald, The Brave, and the Beautiful. Contestants anxiously await the results. Who will lose his hair? Pink or not, we’re ready to run!
Jason Manning’s family wasn’t as timid. They seemed to take great delight in shearing his locks. First wife, Sophia, then his son took turns.
Almost-retired Mark Black agreed to shave his head if over $10,000 was raised for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. It did—and he did! Wife Mary Black seemed all to happy to help.
Shaven and shorn! Even the band got in on the pink on Saturday night. Korrey Merritt of D’Merrit showed off his pretty pink “Hello Kitty” guitar.
