The American Legion Post 413 Auxiliary hosted a children’s Christmas carnival at the legion lounge on Sunday, December 12. Dozens of kids enjoyed a snowman bean bag toss, a lollipop Christmas tree, a dime toss, ice fishing and more. Top: The highlight of the day was the appearance of Santa Claus! Kamryn Johnson shares her Christmas wishes with Santa. Above: Kirsten Pederson helps little Jordan Gotchie with her “catch” in the ice fishing game. Right: There were a number of delicious goodies for the cakewalk and kids enjoyed the trip around and around to find out whether or not they won a cake or pie.

The Julefest at Bethlehem Lutheran Church on Saturday, December 11 was a delightful Christmas event, with the crowning of St. Lucia, sugary Scandinavian treats, and lovely music. Top: What would a Scandinavian Christmas event be without lutefisk? Commissioner Jim Johnson shows off some of the delicacy for sale, courtesy of the late Fred Anderson of Grand Marais, who last year ordered more than his family could eat. Above: Mary McElevey lights the traditional Julefest candles at the tables filled with Scandinavian specialties.

The Grand Portage Lodge was brimming with holiday spirit on Saturday, December 11 for its annual Christmas Craft Show. Friends Nicole Jacobsen and Terry Smith offered beautiful holiday jewelry and delicious baked goods.
