For the first time ever, the Grand Marais Lions Club had a float in the Fisherman’s Picnic parade. And a lovely entry it was too, with its sturdy life-sized lions. The Lions won a prize for “Best Overall Float.”
The U.S. Forest Service had cute kids, cool costumes, and Smokey Bear. They won an award for “Most Original Float.”
The folks on the class reunion floats appeared to be having a terrific time, like these friends on the Class of 1980 float.
The Class of 1970 had a wild weekend. One classmate made Hawaiian leis for all to wear. Between the school-color leis and the tie-dye tops, the Class of ’70 won “Best Class Reunion Float,” leading some 70s class folks to quip, “We got lei’d and won first prize!”
