This was the first time in more than 40 years that the Grand Marais Lions July 4th fireworks weren’t lit by Bob Spry, a certified fireworks operator and a “Mr. Do Everything” for the Lions and community in general. Bob passed away on June 9, 2023. To commemorate his memory and many years of service a truck with a sign saying in “Memory of Bob” was driven slowly through town before this year’s awesome fireworks display. Bob’s nephew, Mike Ryden, came up with idea. His sister, Phyllis Ryden and sister-in-law Laurie Spry made the signs. Brother, Lyle Spry, brother-in-law Pete Ryden and nephew Mike did the mounting. Mike was allowed to light the first firework and the fireworks crew had a moment of silence for Bob before continuing the show.
