Mila Horak, ISD 166 art teacher, had a lot of help at the Grand Marais Arts Festival painting murals that will be hung on the north outside wall of Birchbark Books and Gifts. Mila creates public paint-by-number murals and invites the community to take part in painting during the festival. Funding for this project comes from the Great Place project grants.
Above: While the streets below were filled with throngs of people enjoying the sunny weather and the many beautiful displays of art, above there was a graceful pig kite that was joyfully flying about the sky. Right: Passersby who wanted to leave a positive message could fill out a colorful bird or leaf piece of paper and hang it on this wish tree. The tree was filled with many hopes, dreams, and positive thoughts for the area and planet.
