Appearing one night last week on the deck railing of the Kettunen household was this Boreal Owl. The owl was surveying for rodents who often scurry about finding seeds knocked off the Kettunens’ bird feeder. Hunting must have been good, because the next morning this little owl was still perched on the railing with signs of one catch from the night before on the snow below.
It’s not easy to get a good picture of a deer in full stride as it romps through the snow but Gary Siesennop had his camera out and ready to shoot when this doe bounded by.
Every winter Grand Marais award-winning outdoor photographer David Johnson manages to find and take beautiful pictures of the regal lynx, called by some the ghost of the forest, and this year is no exception. Note the large paws on this beautiful cat and the tufts of fur on its ears.
