It was hot in California in July 1913, the year that Lucille Pettijohn was born. Temperatures were a U.S. record 134 degrees F. That year the first sedan-type car (Hudson) went on display, the first prize was inserted into a Cracker Jack box, and Tiny Broadwick became the first female to parachute from an airplane. But none of that mattered on July 12 as a big birthday celebration was held for Lucille Pettijohn at the North Shore Health Care Center. Cake and ice cream was served to a room full of well-wishers who were on hand to sing Happy Birthday to Lucille and wish her a happy 104th birthday.
