Mitchel Vedders of Milaca, Minnesota, caught this beauty of a lake trout while fishing with his father-in-law Glen Larsen of Grand Marais on September 15, just outside the harbor. The fish provided a 10-minute fight. The men did not weigh or measure it, but released it fairly quickly so perhaps some other angler will have the thrill of catching it. It was estimated to be just under 20 pounds.

Former Cook County resident Fred Bonin who now lives in Naknek, Alaska and Steve Johnson enjoyed a day of fishing on the North Shore with Kevin Johnson of Schroeder in September. The goal was to catch one fish so Bonin could go back to Alaska to tell friends he had caught a lake trout on Lake Superior. They did more than that—between Fred and Steve, they caught six lake trout. Fred is holding a nice six-pounder.
