Community members gathered on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 to dedicate a new sidewalk on County Road 7 that will make walking past North Shore Hospital and Care Center, Sawtooth Ridges Senior Apartments and Birch Wood Apartments safer and easier. Cook County commissioners considered vetoing the $114,552 project because bids for the work came back $36,952 more than anticipated, however more than 30 people turned out for the March 18, 2014 meeting at which a decision was to be made. After listening to area residents and members of the Cook County Active Living Steering Committee, the board agreed to proceed. The work was completed and the sidewalk is now ready for use. At the ribbon cutting were representatives from a local daycare, schools, the hospital and care center, and the county. After cutting the ribbon, everyone enjoyed popcorn and lemonade courtesy of the Moving Matters group.
