For the second year, Cook County High School students have worked to eliminate an invader on school grounds, the Siberian pea shrub. Last year students in April Wahlstrom’s 10th grade science class cut down a stand of the invasive shrub by the football field. This year’s 10th graders maintained that area and cut down another huge stand of the hardy invasive plant. Invasive Species Coordinator Angelique Edgerton worked with Wahlstrom and her students. Edgerton said they would return in the spring to finish clearing and to plant pines to restore the area. Edgerton said, “The kids were very hardworking and got a ton done!”
