Hattie Kunze knows a thing or two about density, and she shared her knowledge with the throngs of people who attended the Sawtooth Elementary Project Fair held Thursday, May 16.
Legos were a big hit at the project fair. Several children put up displays featuring the always-popular toy that teaches kids how to build anything that their imaginations can conjure.
One of the cutest displays was the table full of papier-mâché piggy banks made by the first-grade class. Each pig was blessed with a lot of colorful personality.
John VanderHeiden was all smiles as he displayed an interesting all-terrain vehicle he designed and built.
Thanks to the North Shore Music Association, Mark Powers, percussionist and presenter of “Junk Jam” spent Friday, May 17 with students at Great Expectations School in Grand Marais. The students learned how to turn everyday objects into musical instruments. Above: It took a few minutes, but Powers got the enthusiastic students to pound, clap and tap in time. Right: Powers recruited a volunteer from the Fawns class to help demonstrate how to play spoons. On Saturday, May 18, Powers performed for a full house at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts.
