Catching a few winks, this pine marten looks mighty comfortable nodding off in this tree. About the size of a small cat, pine martens belong to the weasel family. Although they hunt chipmunks, mice and squirrels, during the summer they also eat nuts and berries. During deep snow winters, pine martens use tunnels below the snow to hunt. Once threatened with extinction in Minnesota, the pine marten are now safely up in numbers, with an estimate population of more than 10,000.
