Small and sweet, this Northern Saw-whet owl catches a few zzz’s in an evergreen tree to prepare, one supposes, for its night hunt. These owls feed mostly on mice and voles, shrews and young squirrels. Saw-whet owls are among the smallest of all North American owls and are a favorite of photographers who can spot them in the tree branches.
