This bull moose was out for a morning jog when Butch Schulte caught him in this photo. When full grown, a moose can weigh as much as 1,200 pounds. They eat aspen, maple, and many kinds of water plants. Standing six to seven feet at the shoulders with bodies that are nine to ten feet long, a moose is an intimidating creature. While extremely nearsighted, moose have a keen sense of smell and hearing. These large animals look cumbersome, but they can run silently through the woods and brush at 35 miles per hour and easily swim ten miles. Moose also dive to the bottom of shallow lakes and ponds to retrieve mouthfuls of water plants. A moose can store 100 pounds of food in its stomach.
