A lot of trees were taken down to make room for the Gitchee-gami bike trail extension. The bike path is being built in sections where Highway 61 roadwork is done. This year over three miles will be added to the path that will run from the Rock Cut to Grand Marais. When the entire route is completed it will be an 89-mile non-motorized trail stretching from Two Harbors to Grand Marais, 45 miles of that in Lake County and 44 miles in Cook County.
