On Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 2:42 p.m. Grand Marais Fire Department and Cook County Sheriff’s Office responded to a garage on fire at West Third Street in Grand Marais. A neighbor located behind the property reported the fire. Firefighters found the garage fully engulfed in flame, threatening the house and vehicle in close proximity. Firefighters entered the home and were able to locate and safely evacuate homeowner Carol Bosman with successful reentry to rescue pets – a dog, cat and rabbit.
Grand Marais PUC was called to shut down the power and manage electrical risk. Maple Hill Fire Department was called for mutual aid but was later cancelled.
At 3:33 p.m., the fire was reported out. Grand Marais and Cook County highway department crews assisted with street cleanup as fire suppression efforts left significant water and debris in the street.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. There were no injuries reported.
