Thursday morning was a good time to skijor through town. Even though the roads had been plowed, snow continued to fall. While it was fun for some, everyone greeted the storm with glee. “This is heart attack snow,” said the young man, breathing heavily as he laboriously shoveled what amounted to slush outside of his downtown Grand Marais business on Thursday morning, December 27. A mixture of snow and rain blanketed the Northland late this past week making for heavy, wet snow. The National Weather Service predicted the precipitation would gradually change back to all snow by mid afternoon on Thursday. Over a 24-hour period parts of Cook County received 9-15 inches of snow in the higher elevations.
