A small population of beavers entertains tourists and locals alike as they swim about the Grand Marais harbor, but they also cause some damage to trees, especially in the Recreation Park. “We do have a permit to move them,” said Grand Marais Mayor Jay Arrowsmith DeCoux. “But for now were are not planning on doing anything. If they start to make a big impact on boaters and campers, then we might do something. They don’t cost the city much money and it’s kind of cool to sit down, eat your lunch and watch the beavers. This is their habitat as much as it is ours.”
