Artist Point and the Grand Marais harbor was the site (and often the subject) of throngs of artists who took part in the Plein Air Quick Paint contest held on September 13. Artists had two hours to complete a painting while hundreds of people gathered to watch them perform their magic on canvas. Here, Larry Seiller works fast to paint Tim Lamb as Lamb plays his guitar. The Quick Paint competition and a weeklong plein air painting competition were sponsored by Johnson Heritage Post (JHP) Art Gallery in collaboration with the Outdoor Painters of Minnesota. JHP Art Gallery has more than 300 plein air pictures on display now through October 7. Staff photo/Brian Larsen
