The Avery family has had a frequent visitor in the past few months. Josiah writes: “My family has a female bear that has been sticking closely to our house lately. Last night (Aug. 14), my 8-monthold Brittany, Maggie, scared her off of our septic mound. Earlier, she tore apart our mountain ash tree at the end of our driveway…I got this picture of her at the entrance of County Road 14 near mile marker 121. Since North American black bear females have a home territory of between 2.5-10 square miles, there is a good chance that this is the same bear that has been making the unwanted visits to our house over the past several months.” Photo courtesy of Josiah Avery
