One of the missions of the Sons of the American Legion, Post 413, in Grand Marais, is to serve the community. The Legion Sons have done this for many years by contributing to the Cook County Food Shelf. The Food Shelf has seen a great increase in use in the past year and volunteer Gwen Lenz said there have been shortages. On the September 7 distribution day, the Food Shelf had insufficient supplies of many staples, such as canned vegetables, macaroni and cheese and fruit juice. Lenz said the Food Shelf would put the $800 donation to good use. American Legion Sons member Ben Silence presented the check to the Food Shelf on September 14. To find out how you can help the Food Shelf, call Lenz at (218) 387-9860.
