The Grand Marais Lions Club donated $4,000 to the Cook County Historical Society to use for the restoration of the Bally Blacksmith shop. Lion Max Bichel presented the check to Cook County Historical Society president Alta McQuatters. McQuatters thanked the Lions for their gift and their ongoing support of the historical society. Three generations of the Bally family ran the blacksmith shop for 94 years. In 1986 it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 2010 Bill Bally passed away and a great blacksmith (and man) was lost to the area.
