While in recent times some atheists and non-religious people have proclaimed the first Thursday in May as the “National Day of Reason,” others still observe the day that Congress set aside in 1952 as the “National Day of Prayer.” Seven Cook County residents gathered on the courthouse steps and spent an hour praying for the religious, political, police, military and educational leaders of the county, state and country.
