After the high winds during the night of Sunday, May 19, 2013, Cook County residents awoke to trees down across driveways and trash cans blown away. Several businesses—such as the Birch Terrace in Grand Marais—had signs toppled. The Pappy Wright Little League Field saw significant damage. The high winds caught the roof of one of the dugouts, peeling it back and causing the cinderblock walls to collapse. Baseball season has begun, so it will be a challenge for the teams to play without two intact dugouts. Since volunteers originally constructed the dugouts, it is not yet known how and when the dugout will be rebuilt.
