Twenty-one people attended a town hall meeting hosted by County Commissioner Garry Gamble April 16, 2013 at the Cook County Senior Center in Grand Marais. Gamble said there’s a lot going on in the community right now. “From my perspective, we are at a crossroads,” he said, explaining that decisions we make now “will define who we want to be as a community.” He talked with the group about many topics, including security at the courthouse, fiscal responsibility, interaction between the public and the county board at county board meetings, threatened litigation from County Attorney Tim Scannell related to the courthouse shooting, the new Cook County Family YMCA and threatened litigation by LHB, the project’s architectural/engineering firm, and the proposed biomass district heating plant. Gamble indicated that he will remain open to the opinions of his constituents but believes following principle is vital even in the face of opposition.
