Karen Neal of Grand Marais shared this Thanksgiving Day photo of a group that has been dubbed the “Turkey Trotters.” Neal explained that a few friends started this Thanksgiving morning hike five years ago and the event has grown significantly. This year there were 23 people and 11 dogs. The walkers take a two-hour, six-mile hike past Blueberry Lake on the North Shore Snowmobile Trail off of the Meridian Road in Grand Marais. Not everyone knows each other at the beginning of the hike, anyway. Neal said all the energetic, smiley people were easily corralled and even nine of the 11 dogs cooperated for the picture. She added, “It’s a great way to rationalize eating the feast that follows in our separate homes.”
