As part of Fire Prevention Week October 7 – 13, local fire departments visited Cook County schools. Firefighters talked to students in the classroom about what to do if a fire breaks out at home. They talked about calling 911 and having a safe place to meet outside the house. Youngsters then had the chance to check out fire gear and take a turn on the fire hose. Matt Conlan of the Grand Marais Fire Department helps Bridget take a turn as her Sawtooth Mountain Elementary classmates wait excitedly. See more on the fire department visits on page A3.
