Last spring, Birch Grove Community School had a special end-of-year event, which included fun sporting events, a tug-of-war—and a pie in the face for Birch Grove Director Diane Blanchette. It was all part of the reading incentive program at Birch Grove. Students get a ticket for each book they read. At the end of the year a drawing is held and the student who read the most books gets a prize. Winner Savana Merritt got to pick anyone at Birch Grove—teacher or staff—to hit in the face with a cream pie! Savana chose Blanchette—who showed her “appreciation” by giving Savana a nice creamy hug! The competition will start anew as Birch Grove students head back to the classroom September 4.
