Although members of the North Superior Ski & Run Club had to do a little extra work to make sure the trails were good, the 29th annual Sawtooth International Ski Races went off without a hitch on Saturday, February 18. Many volunteers spent time shoveling snow onto the race course throughout the week leading up to the races—much to the delight of both racers and spectators. The Sawtooth races provided opportunities for both classic and freestyle skiers to test their abilities on the Pincushion Mountain trails. Above, in 3rd place on the first loop of the 19.5 K freestyle race, (wearing bib No. 65) Matt Zak glides along biding his time. He would go on to win the race by 3 minutes over Rhett Bonner of Duluth, who is wearing bib No. 80 and is just ahead of him in this picture. Scott Cody, wearing bib No. 45, would go on to finish 10th overall. See race results on page B2.
