The “people’s choice” winner of the 2011 business holiday lighting contest was the Blue Moose on the west end of Grand Marais. Accepting the $50 prize (left) is Laurie Kriz, and she is standing next to Rene Swadburg, holding the winner’s badge. On the right is Maggie Barnard, events manager for the Cook County Visitors Bureau, which sponsored the contest along with the Grand Marais Chamber of Commerce. Kriz and Swadberg, who work for Blue Moose owner Bill Doucette, spent three days planning their lighting display. It incorporated a lot of white, blue, and green lights with red accents on the gazebo in front of the business.
