Marlo Luick of Grand Marais did a fabulous job rehabbing the veterans’ memorial on the Cook County courthouse lawn that honors the memory of local vets of World Wars I and II. The monument was erected in 1949 and had decayed considerably. Luick fortified the foundation, created a wall around the monument, regrouted between the bricks, shined up the plaque, and made a concrete cap for the top. He is working for the county maintenance department over the summer, but as a veteran himself, had wanted to do the project anyway.
