Smoke from Canadian wildfires is causing the sun to look like a red fireball at sunrise and sunset. The Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre stated on Tuesday, May 16 that the number of fires for this time of year is “somewhat above average and nearly 10 times the average for area burned for this time of year.” The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency issued an air quality alert for the northern half of Minnesota on Tuesday because of the smoke from wildfires burning in northern Alberta and Saskatchewan.
