“We have had two American Tree Sparrows at our place in Lutsen,” said Jean Brislance. “This is somewhat unusual for our area in winter, as the northern edge of their winter range is typically central Minnesota. Prior to the arrival of this pair, the Minnesota Ornithologists’ Union database only had 21 documented winter season (Dec-Feb) records in Cook County, with the first observation of this species dating back to 28-Dec-1955. We have been enjoying their presence, and they seem to love foraging under a fallen spruce that was taken down by the Christmas blizzard.”
