The Johnson Heritage Post received a grant from the Lloyd K. Johnson Foundation for an addition to the back of the gallery and some remodeling to the inside of the building. The new addition will be used for climate-controlled storage of the Johnson Heritage Post permanent collection, storage of files and other important documents, and a workspace for installing exhibits. The original drawings for the addition were done by Russell Zenk, architect, and subsequently modified and completed by Larry Boen, Osten Boen Designs. All drawings were approved by a structural engineering firm. The general contractor for the addition will be Smith Construction, Duane, Chad and Jared Smith. The addition to the Johnson Heritage Post was started Oct. 12, with Edwin E. Thoreson Construction doing the digging. Shown are Alta McQuatters, Steve Netland, Mildred Thoreson, Gene Erickson, Robert Pratt, Duane Smith, and Don Davison. Steve is the machine operator from Thoreson’s; Duane is the primary contractor; Alta is president of the Cook County Historical Society; and Mildred, Gene, Bob and Don are Society board members.
