The new rain garden on the Cook County courthouse lawn, the site of consternation and complaint before this May's Memorial Day ceremony, has been revamped. With the collaborating efforts of the Cook County Soil and Water Conservation District, Cook County maintenance and highway departments, and planting volunteers, including Master Gardeners and Diane Booth, Cook County Extension, the courthouse rain garden has a new and much smaller footprint. The reshaped and re-sized rain garden will continue to filter the parking lot run-off while also serving as a demonstration project. Its new placement restores the lawn surrounding the Veteran's Memorial to accommodate memorial gatherings. The cost of the changes is $3,774, which includes $2,850 to W-Labor and $924 for sod.
