“It is always a treat to see a big, beautiful Pine Grosbeak show up in the yard,” said Jean Brislance. Late fall is when we usually start to see some of our first winter finches. And we are due for a good invasion of the Common Redpolls. We usually see a few, but every once in a while, we will have a huge flock hang around at the feeders for an extended period of time. We also enjoy finding some White-winged Crossbills with their crazy beaks designed for tearing apart the spruce cones. It is nice to have such colorful birds here in the winter after all our summer birds have left us.
