When Butch Schulte asked what kind of moth this was, I immediately contacted David Maclean, entomologist, and retired college teacher for advice. Said MacLean, “The moth appears to be the Grape Plume Moth, Geina periscelidactylus. Plume moths belong to the family Pterophoridae, a large family of moths found on all continents except Antarctica. Twelve species of Plume moths are found in Northeastern North America. Adults rest in a characteristic “T” pattern and the wings are divided into two or more lobes.” Butch came across a wall of moths, two of which are the somewhat rare light green Luna moths.
