On the one-year anniversary of George Floyd’s death, a group of concerned citizens gathered at Harbor Park in Grand Marais to look back on the long year of events that has transpired. Ann Russ led with a song, Carly Puch led nine minutes and 28 seconds of silence before Denny Fitzpatrick concluded with: “On the anniversary of George Floyd’s death, let us be reminded of the long struggle ahead to reach true justice. We must normalize anti-racism, speak out when we see something hateful. May racial justice and equity prevail. May decency and respect and kindness and gentleness and peace prevail. Dr Martin Luther King said the arc of history bends toward justice and peace. May we all help our human species evolve in that direction. Let’s do this traditional chant and response loud enough to be heard in Minneapolis:

Say his name!!GEORGE FLOYD!!! Say his name!! GEORGE FLOYD!!! Rest in power!! GEORGE FLOYD!
